今日はとても　役に立つ表現を　勉強したいと　思います。
Today's lesson is very useful for people learnig Japanese language.

準備はいいですか？　　それでは始めましょう。

Are you ready? Let's start.

「これは　なんですか？」(korewa nann desuka?)
What's is this?

たとえば　あなたが　日本で生活していて　日本語の表現がわからない時が
あると　思います。
For example, you are in Japan, you want to know "What shoud I say this in japanese ?".



そんなときに　「これは　何ですか？」　と聞くことで
あなたは　たくさんの　日本語を覚えることができるでしょう。
Please say this expression「これは　何ですか？」(korewa nann desuka?)

「これは　なんですか？」(korewa nann desuka?)




この　「　これは　何ですか？」　という表現を　使うことで
あなたは　たくさんの　日本語を　学べるでしょう。
I'm sure if you can use this expression (korewa nann desuka?), you can learn many Japanese languages.



日本を歩いていて　わからない単語に　ぶつかったら　すぐに　聞きましょう。

When you are in Janan, you want to know "nihonn go",let's try to speak "korewa nann desuka?".


「これは　何ですか？」(korewa nann desuka?)
What is this?


「それは　何ですか？」(sorewa nann desuka?)
What is it?

「あれは　何ですか？」(arewa nann desuka?)
What is that?


もしも　相手が友達ならば　あなたは　こう言うことができます。
If you speak with your fried or family, you can say simply ,

「これ　なぁに？」　　　「これ　何て言うの？」

"kore nahani?" "kore nante iuno?"

もっと　丁寧に表現したい場合は
polite expression is


「すみません、　これは何ですか？」(sumimasen korewa nann desuka?)
Excuseme, what is this?

「すみません、　これは　何といいますか？」(sumimasenn korewa nann to
ii masuka?)
Excuseme ,could you teach me this one with nihonngo?

という　表現を使います。



もしも　相手の　返事が早くて　聞き取れなかったら
If you can't catch the word,please say this.

「すみません　もう一度　お願いします」(sumimasenn mou ichido onegai simasu)
I beg your pardon?



「すみません　もう少し　ゆっくり　お願いします」(sumimasen mou sukosi yukkuri onegai simasu)
Excuse me,please speak more slowly.

Chang's question: I thought that it is a rule, say ,"How do you do?",when we met someone at the first time.

But I've watched many Hollywood movies, they don't say "How do you do?", only shake hands,they say "Hi" or "Hello",even if[correct?] a business scene.

You American people don't use this sentence?
How do you do?

I've never heard from Hollywood movies.

皆さんも　そう思いませんか？　ハリウッド映画をみていて
How do you do ?ていう　せりふは　ききませんよね。

先生曰く　これは　間違いではないし、極めて丁寧な
言い方だ。
しかし、　現在は　あまり　使わないし、自分のまわりでも
聞いたことがない。

だけど　チャン　君が１９３０年代の　映画
例えば　クラーク・ゲーブルや　ジョニー・ミッチェルの映画を
見れば　もしかしたら

こんな　表現を耳にするかも　知れないね。


When you meet Japanese people at the first time, you say "hajimemashite".

hajimemashite はじめまして

If you meet this person again, you say "konn-ni-chi-wa".

You can say "konn-ni-chi-wa" in the day time.

konn-ni-chi-wa こんにちわ


Greetings are most important communication tools.


Good morning = o-ha-you- go-za- i- ma-su
おはようございます


Good afternon= konn- ni-chi- wa
こんにちわ

Good evening= konn-bann-wa
こんばんわ



Good night = o-ya- sumi-na-sa-i
You can say simply "oyasumi" to your family and friends.
おやすみなさい
おやすみ


Hi & Hello = konn- ni- chi-wa
こんにちわ


How are you? = genn- ki-de-su-ka?
げんきですか？元気ですか？


Chang's question
We Japanese people learned that ,Respond "I'm fine thank you,and you?" when I am asked from someone "How are you?".

But,teacher ,I've heard another expressions in Hong Kong Hotel.
Door boy asked for[to] a staying guest[a guest] "How are you,sir?", he responded to door boy ,"Quite very well,thank you",and another lady responded "Very well,thank you".

I want to know another expressions.

Not so well

So so.

I have had a better day.
(いい一日だと　いいけど・・前日についてなかったり）

What's wrong?

Something happend.


Teacher and I talked about expressions how to say when we are late.


I'm very sorry to be late.
I'm so sorry to be late.

more polite expression
I'm sorry to have kept you waiting.


Chang has heard this sentence before,when she visited in Hong Kong.

Chang orderd to go a cheese burger and a cup of coffee in MacDonald's.
But Chang had to wait about 8 minutes,because many people were waiting their orders.


When Chang got her food and drink,she heard that sentence,"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting".


Chang heard many times this sentence before when she visited in USA.

Though she was worried about she could hear the sentence correctly,today,
she is convinced that she can hear English correctly.


And we talked about "a 10 dollar tip"that Chang gave to bunny girl in Las Vegas.


A bunny girl was thinking this girl(Chang) might be a child because japanese girl looks like so young.


Chang orderd to a bunny girl,"Tomato juice please.".

A few minutes later,the bunny girl brought me(Chang) a tomato juice,Chang gave her a 10 dollar tip.

The bunny girl was so surprised because a 10 dollar tip is a big tip for her.

I appreciate this,thank you.

私たちに　英語を　教えてくださる　Lee先生の　経歴です。

This is the Teacher Lee's experience.


I thought you and the other students might want to know something about my experience.

I have a bachelor's of arts in English literature from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.

I also have bachelor's arts in journalism from the University of Houston.

In addition, I have a masters in library and information science from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.

Now, I work as an archivist and special collections librarians. That means I work with rare and old books and manuscripts in a university library.

I worked for many years as a journalist for newspapers and business publications in the Houston area. I also worked as a copy editor. A copy editor is someone who checks the spelling and grammar of news stories before they are published.

I taught English as a second language to Mexican immigrants to the United States. I also taught English as a second language to Spanish speaking engineers from Bolivia. For those English classes, I taught students basic conversational skills.

何より　helloもいうことが　できなかった　私が
今は　たとえ　片言でも　スカイプで　先生と
お話ができたり　セカンドライフの　中でも
英語で買い物、クレーム、商売、　いろいろなことを
しています。

I remember when I met to Teacher Lee.
He said to me "Hello Chang.", I answered him "hi".
I couldn't say any word,but "hi".
He asked me something,I understood his questions,
but I couldn't say anymore.

Because we did training "Put into English" in a junior high school and a high school during 6years,lol.

6years..............So long time!!!


But we Japanese can't speak English.

Why?


Because we are very shy.


And also we are worried about failure of english spell and grammer.


So we try to "put into correct english".


We japanese try to speak "correct English" that we learned in a school.



But when I visit foreign coutries,I don't need difficult sentences,I can contact with foreign people by very easy english.


If I want to sit a chair,I don't know a chair is vacant, I just say next people," May I?".

Very simple.


I want to say the people who want to learn english,
"Don't be shy!!" ,"Do't be affraid"".

Teacher Lee always says to me,"Try to speak with only a word.".
He is listening carefully to my word.

He teachs me at the first time,"Don't say ,I'm sorry.
When you can understand me,


say


I understand.

when you can't understand me,

say

I don't understand.".


Now I am talking with my Teacher by "Skype".

We are so excited.
